After last season fiasco with both Ivo Ferreira and Nelo Vingada failing to make Marítimo a regular team, Brazilian PC Gusmão was brought in to lead Marítimo into being closer to what they usually are: a solid top half table team. Last season was somewhat schizophrenic between a very low overall performance in the league combined with a Final played for the Taça da Liga (eventually lost to Benfica). This year, the main goal is to get the team to have an identity in their game style and start getting consistent good scores as a result. Last season most influential player, midfielder Fransérgio, will continue alongside Marítimo, such as his good more defensive partner in the midfield, French Damien Plessis. Important players like goalkeeper Salin, defender Ruben Ferreira and midfielder João Diogo are gone, but the club seemed to be quick and efficient to replace them with Gottardi, Samuel Santos and Jean Cléber. Former Moreirense full-back Coronas is expected to also be a good addition to the team.

Target

Marítimo will be looking to regain reputation in the league and get closer to the European qualification spots. Something in the first 8 places of the table should be considered an improvement, although Madeirenses are expected to always be fighting for (and sometimes getting in) the qualification for the Europa League.
