Had a mediocre 2025. Finished eighth and were never in serious trouble but also never close enough to the top 4. Mixed 12 wins with 14 defeats. Often dominated the teams below them and struggled against the top 6 sides. Oscar Hiljemark failed to impress in his first year at the helm so he was released at the end of the season. Start 2026 with fresh perspective and a new manager. Bjorn Hamberg has experience at the highest level (Brighton, Sweden, Chelsea and Feyenoord). All that experience as an assistant coach though so it is new to him to be the main man. It has been a quiet winter, if anything the squad got smaller. Hamberg’s last job was developing talent at Brighton U18s and it seems the Elves expect from him to focus on giving more of the Academy players a chance. Elfsborg won the title at U17 level recently so they certainly have potential in their own youth ranks. With that in mind teenagers like Ostman, Richtner, Mohammed and Aronsson could see much more use at senior level this year. Still have a solid core of experienced regulars to help them. The main changes have been in midfield. Solid duo Wanderson and Zeneli left the team. Replaced by two loanees – Beck and Kamara. They are both very young players so not certain how well they can fill in the void. In the circumstances, keeping the injury prone Magnusson healthy becomes even more important. When fit he can be a true anchor to the midfield line.
