The champions for 4 of the last 6 years had a difficult 2025. Finished only sixth and never got higher than third place all year. Looked uninspiring for most of the year and it seemed as if after winning 3 titles in a row in his first 3 years in charge coach Rydstrom has lost his magic. There was no chance for Rydstrom to stay in charge after what was the worst point-tally for Malmo in 58 years. He has been replaced by Spaniard Miguel Ángel Ramírez. Mainly experienced in Spain’s second tier where he managed Zaragoza and Sporting Gijon in recent years. It has been a passive off-season so far. Parted ways with two of the main inner midfielders Bolin and Berg Johnsen. Replaced them with two new arrivals from Serbia – Karabelyov and Milosavljevic. Apart from that no other major moves so far. Of course, for the first time in over a decade Malmo won’t be involved in Europe so this alone should give them a major advantage as they try to get back to the top spot in Allsvenskan. Young Daniel Guðjohnsen developed very well as a striker while Botheim was out injured in 2025. The pair could be starting together now as the new head coach seems to favour 2 up front based on his selections in the pre-season Swedish Cup tournament. Continue to have vastly experienced group and most of the players are used to win titles so the Sky Blues can expect much better displays and results in 2026.

Target

The only acceptable outcome is to win the title again.
