Estrela is back to top flight 14 years after the last presence. Since then, Estrela da Amadora was extinct, revived, suffered a merge and finally recovered their own identity before putting out a memorable performance in Segunda Liga, last season, reaching the third position and beating another historical team, Marítimo, on the playoffs. Coach Sérgio Vieira is aware that Estrela needs to step up their game in order to remain competitive now in top flight level. Vieira used a back-3 system during last season and is expected to keep it for the new one. Estrela will mostly rely on last season's squad, but there are some noteworthy additions for the season: Pedro Sá will provide top flight experience to the side, Leo Cordeiro will return to first division more confident after three good seasons in Segunda Liga. Leo Jabá will give pace and skills on the wings. Kialonda Gaspar is the leader of defence; Miguel Lopes will at 36 start what can be his best season in Portuguese league, now as a centre-back. In attack, Ronald Pereira and Ronaldo Tavares are expected to reply the excellent partnership of last season.

Target

Such an inexperienced squad might struggle at the top flight, but there are some characteristics on the team that make the fans believe they can be the "new Casa Pia" for the current season.
