Konyaspor managed to stay far from serious trouble last season and they enter the new campaign hoping to build a more stable team. In recent years, their home performance has generally played an important role and it should be one of their main weapons once again. However, the squad has gone through a considerable change this summer and some experienced players have left the club. That is why the first weeks of the season could be important to see how quickly the new structure works. Especially, the defence line has lost experience. Guilherme, Calusic and Bazoer left the team while Nagalo returned to PSV following the end of his loan period. Arif Bosluk was brought from Trabzon but his stay was temporary and he returned to his club. Young Brazilian defender Da Mata was also added. Besides him, several defenders came back from their loan periods. They give some depth to the squad but there are question marks about whether they are ready to take regular responsibility at Super League level. So, it would not be a surprise to see the board searching for another experienced defender. Midfield has also lost some important names. Marko Jevtovic and Berkan Kutlu left while Jin-ho Jo was loaned out. Adem Eren Kabak returned from Erzurum to increase the numbers but they still seem short in this area. Offensively, Ebrima Colley looks like the most notable arrival. Kazeem Olaigbe left on loan and Melih Bostan was also sent to Umraniyespor after returning to the team. This means that the existing offensive players will carry an important responsibility again. In general, the current squad looks thinner and less experienced than it should be. Some late additions could completely change the picture but as things stand, Konyaspor may have to depend heavily on their home results.

Target

Staying comfortably at midtable should be their first target. If they fail to strengthen some positions, they could find themselves closer to the relegation battle than expected.
