Football Season Review

№17: Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace’s season was one of the proverbial two halves. Dougie Freedman’s side started like a house on fire and at one point it looked like they may even have a chance of reaching the play-offs. Priorities soon changed when they reached the League Cup semi-final. But they eventually fell by the wayside after losing that two legged affair to Cardiff City and with the season petering out, Freedman decided to blood youngsters in the shape of Kyle De Silva and Matthew Parsons. Given they had looked so good early in the campaign, finishing an eventual 17th will come as a bit of a disappointment. Freedman looks set to give youth a chance next term but keeping hold of the likes of Nathaniel Clyne and Wilfried Zaha will be a big challenge. Palace drew 11 of their home matches which was a bit disappointing although they only conceded 19 goals at Selhurst Park, thanks largely to the form of keeper Julian Speroni. Although their away form was still less than impressive, six wins on their travels with a considerable improvement on the previous campaign.
