Football Season Review

Champions: Burnley

Burnley were the best side in the Championship and deserved their title. Sean Dyche's policy of having a small squad and sticking with a regular starting eleven came up trumps yet again just like it did two years ago. Eyebrows were raised when Andre Gray was signed last summer for a club record £7 million. But he responded in style to the pressure with 25 goals in total (23 for Burnley having moved from Brentford). Joey Barton was another significant signing in midfield as was Michael Keane in defence. Their home form particularly helped them back to the Premier League. Dyche knows that investment needs to be made in the form of new players if his side are to survive in the top flight this time around and prevent the club from being that bit of a yo-yo club it has been over the past few years. Losing Barton to Rangers is also a significant blow.
