Football Season Review

№22: Charlton Athletic

Charlton have had an horrific season that has seen them relegated to the third tier of English football largely due to problems behind the scenes. The complete disdain the fans have for the owners have not helped with repeated matches disrupted. But the owners appear to have made very bizarre decisions at least not least in terms of new managers. Guy Luzon started the season but was soon dismissed while Karel Fraeye was appointed interim head coach for mid-season, a disastrous period which ultimately ended any chance the Addicks had of surviving. Jose Riga at least steadied the ship but it became clear he would not be around for long and indeed confirmed his departure on the final day. Charlton need stability and it is difficult to know how they will find it with the current structure. The state of the club is a desperate shame especially as they had plenty of up and coming youngsters coming through the ranks, especially Ademola Lookman who took off this term.
