Football Season Review

Champions: Leicester City

Leicester made up for their disappointment of last season by winning promotion and the title in emphatic style. After going down in the play-offs in heartbreaking fashion, Nigel Pearson perhaps surprisingly kept his job but justified his owners' faith in him with a series of fine displays from the off. Although he flirted with other formations early on, Pearson settled with 4-4-2 which got the best out of his side with wingers Anthony Knockaert and Lloyd Dyer impressing. Jamie Vardy made up for a poor first season at the club with 16 goals to go alongside strike partner Dave Nugent's 22. Danny Drinkwater was the standout player in midfield while winger Riyad Mahrez also became a big hit arriving in January. Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was another player who helped Leicester earn a club record 102 points. Leicester still need to resolve the futures of manager Nigel Pearson and eight other players but there is a feeling they have what it takes, especially with financial backing, to survive in the Premier League.
