Football Season Review

№20: Blackpool

Blackpool's campaign was really one of two halves. The Seasiders were outstanding in the early part of the season and briefly looked like they may challenge for a place in the Premier League. However their season imploded around the time Paul Ince left the club. Son Tom, who had been talisman for the side, never featured again going on loan to Crystal Palace and they never recovered. Player Barry Ferguson, totally unsuited to top level management having had no previous experience, struggled especially when dealing with a catalogue of loanees whose deals had expired. He had to completely rebuild which he did. In the end Blackpool secured safety by the skin of their teeth with a couple of displays full of character. But the future remains very much up in the air especially after Ferguson left the club at the end of the campaign. A long hard summer is expected with plenty more comings and goings.
