Football Season Review

№7: Reading

Reading finished 7th but were never in serious contention for promotion even though they still could have made the play-offs as late as injury time against Burnley on the final day. The Royals appeared to be well short of quality with a squad full of holes. Their lack of consistency in the end cost them although they were capable of good one-off displays such as the 7-1 home win over Bolton. However it was their home form that was a real let down. They had the worst home record in the Championship with just eight wins, 10 draws and five defeats. Adam Le Fondre was top scorer with 15 goals but he was seldom used and now appears to be transferred away from the club. Adkins must sign several players over the summer if Reading are to challenge for a place back in the top flight next season. A lot of that depends on whether a muted takeover of the club takes place.
