Football Season Review

№24: Yeovil Town

Championship debutants Yeovil Town did anything but disgrace themselves throughout the 2013/14 campaign. Gary Johnson's men eventually battled in vain to avoid an instant return to League One football, but were competitive in virtually every fixture they played despite a significant difference in playing staff budgets. The Glovers struggled to make Huish Park the home fortress they needed it to be in order to mount a genuine survival bid. A lack of goals also proved a problem, but the arrival of loan striker Ishmael Miller over the festive period appeared to solve those issues until the controversial striker was sent back to parent club Nottingham Forest late on in the campaign. Whether Johnson will be able to hold onto the bulk of his squad remains to be seen with many of his side proving they were more than capable of playing at second tier level on a personal level. The January departure of key playmaker Ed Upson was a financial necessity, and the Somerset side will have plenty of work to do in 2014/15 if they are to make a credible challenge at returning to the Championship at the first attempt.
