Football Season Review

№16: Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday never really got going under Dave Jones with a succession of draws early on in the campaign. But when Jones depart, Stuart Gray, initially caretaker, really turned the mood around at Hillsborough. Wednesday had a new confidence in the side and after being expected to have a relegation battle under Gray, managed to finish comfortably clear in a mid-table position. With exciting young players of the calibre of Caolan Lavery, Wednesday appear to be a club on the rise. Although they regularly found the net late in the season, the Owls did not have someone who found the net more than Chris Maguire with 10 goals and Gray will now prioritise finding that player who can be the focal point of the attack. Wednesday's biggest high came with a 6-0 home win over Leeds and they will feel they can perhaps mount a promotion challenge if Gray buys well over the summer.
