Football Season Review

Champions: QPR

QPR deservedly won promotion back to the Premier League with a magical season that saw them claim the Championship by four points. Central to their elevation was the performances of the mercurial Adel Taarabt who proved to be a real snip for £1 million from Tottenham Hotspur on the eve of the season. The Moroccan may have a volatile temperament but he scored several fine goals and excelled at set pieces and finished leading scorer with 19 goals for the season. The 4-2-3-1 formation formed from the off worked exceptionally but it was not just Rangers’ form going forward that helped them realise an ambition, it was also their wonderful defensive displays. QPR kept clean sheets in more than half their games played. Neil Warnock continued to enhance his claims as being one of the best managers outside the Premier League but he has not had a great time in England’s top flight and this summer may test his resolve. Boardroom interference may not help him either. Rangers only won promotion after an FA investigation into the transfer of Alejandro Faurlin which could have seen them docked points.
