Football Season Review

№10: Leicester City

Leicester City supporters endured a turbulent campaign which started in turmoil under former boss Paolo Sousa. The Portuguese boss was soon given his marching orders from the Walkers Stadium with the Foxes at the foot of the table. City were then taken over by a multi-million pound Thai gaming consortium who promptly appointed former England boss Sven Goran Eriksson as Sousa’s successor. The Swede galvanised the club as Leicester flirted with the Championship play-offs in the second half of the season, only for a late loss of form to derail their bid. The new Thai owners have certainly not been afraid to throw the cash around, securing Everton striker Yakubu on-loan along with Fulham striker Diomansy Kamara. The signing of central defender Sol Bamba added power and physicality to the back line, while loan full backs Patrick van Aanholt and Kyle Naughton provided pace and an attacking outlet down the flanks. Leicester will be a dangerous animal next season if Eriksson is given further funds to add to the squad in 2011/12.
