Football Season Review

№12: Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough will be delighted with an overall 12th place following a challenging season. When Tony Mowbray arrived after Boro had flattered to deceive under Gordon Strachan, they were fearing relegation, but finished in a strong position despite various obstacles. Mowbray will have to rebuild his big squad as the Riverside Stadium club have an enormous wage bill. Boro did so well this season because of a crippling injury list with Mowbray starting to stamp his authority on the squad. They finished the season in fine fettle winning their last four matches and there is plenty of optimism for the next campaign. Scott McDonald started poorly but finished the season with 14 goals but Boro’s best player was defender David Wheater until he departed for Bolton Wanderers. The fact they have copped fine without him suggests things could be on the up.
