Football Season Review

№11: Hull City

Hull City will be delighted with their overall 11th spot after a challenging return to the Championship. They started poorly under Nigel Pearson but soon found their stride and winter signings of strikers Matty Fryatt and Aaron Mclean proved to be inspired decisions. Despite failing to win any away matches in the Premier League last season, the Tigers were outstanding on their travels this time around and their 17-game unbeaten away run only ended when they lost 3-0 at Bristol City on the final day of the season. Just 40 goals at the KC Stadium this season meant visitors to Hull saw the least number of goals in the whole of the Championship. Now that Pearson has built his own squad up and removed some of the big wage earners, the Tigers are now in much better shape – although they do need to perform better on home soil – and can be confident about making a promotion bid next term. Playmaker Robert Koren enjoyed a promising first season at the KC Stadium and was arguably player of the season.
