Football Season Review

№6: Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest were nearly men again although considering the resources at Billy Davies’ disposal, a 6th place and a fourth play-off semi-final defeat was probably an excellent achievement. Davies had to have a skeleton squad due to the finances and was involved in squabbles with his board throughout the season. However team spirit amongst the players carried them through to the play-offs winning the last four games of the regular season after a nine match sequence without victory had destabilised their charge. Luke Chambers was player of the season thanks to a string of superb defensive displays and his last-gasp tackles made up for too much loss of the ball. Guy Moussi spent a few months in the run in on the sidelines and that proved to be costly. Davies could not settle on his strikers with Rob Earnshaw, Nathan Tyson, Dele Adebola and new boys Marcus Tudgay, Kris Boyd and Robbie Findley all rotated. Forest once again excelled at home with just two losses at Fortress City Ground. It could be a big summer though with Davies future along with that of some of his players far from certain.
