Football Season Review

№7: Leeds United

Leeds United will feel they missed a great chance of promotion to the Premier League at the first attempt, finishing a disappointing 7th place after flirting with both the top two and play-off places all season. They fared OK in their first season back in the top two but ultimately their woefully inconsistent form proved to be their undoing. One week United would win handsomely, the next they might lose and it baffled all and sundry. Luciano Becchio scored 20 goals for the season and he was missed in the run-in when injury ended his season a little too early. Grayson appeared reluctant to play more than one striker and with new signings Billy Paynter and Ross McCormack it appeared as if there would be much more to come. Grayson is still arguably learning as a manager and will have learned a lot from a challenging league. Leeds probably need three or four more players in the close season if they are to complete the jigsaw.
