Football Season Review

№15: Bristol City

Bristol City ended up in 15th spot which is somewhat misleading given they had nothing but pride to play for for as much as the final third of the season. City certainly had their peaks and troughs after Steve Coppell decided the job was not for him early on and Keith Millen took the reins after doing the caretaker job successfully the season previously. After such disruption, it took Millen a while to find his feet and Coppell signings such as Nicky Hunt really flattered to deceive at Ashton Gate. City were not helped by the loss of Nicky Maynard for much of the season due to injury but Brett Pitman and Jon Stead eventually settled into their new club. Maynard is now fit again but whether he stays at the club or not is another matter. City can be grateful to former England goalkeeper David James who excelled in his first season at Ashton Gate and saved them many points. Millen certainly needs to sign a few players over the summer if a play-off bid is possible next season.
