Football Season Review

№22: Preston North End

Preston capped a poor season by being relegated back to the third tier after the longest time of any club currently in the second tier. A disastrous start to the season saw Darren Ferguson leave the club and in revenge his father Sir Alex withdraw the loans of several Manchester United footballers at the club. Gradually, replacement Phil Brown lifted the mood around the club and with inspired signings that like Iain Hume, North End are in much better shape as a club. Brown will fancy his side’s chances of making an immediate return to the Championship, especially if he can make any more signings during the summer. He has started the rebuilding job and team spirit has returned to the side. Just three away wins last term were one of the major reasons for their demise. Low crowds at Deepdale did not help matters.
