Football Season Review

№4: Cardiff City

Cardiff City kept up their reputation as promotion bottlers and it was two 3-0 home defeats that ultimately put pay to their chances. They were well in the automatic promotion mix when they inexplicably collapsed against Middlesbrough towards the end of the season trailing 3-0 after just 21 minutes. They repeated the dose losing at home to Reading in the play-offs. Craig Bellamy settled in superbly at his spiritual home on loan from Manchester City and it was clear he was way too good for the Championship. Unfortunately injuries made life difficult for him and Cardiff. Bellamy linked up well with Jay Bothroyd with the pair hitting 31 goals between them. Michael Chopra added able support while Peter Whittingham chipped in from midfield. Bothroyd has now decided to move to pastures new while Bellamy’s future is not certain so the Bluebirds could be rather lightweight next season in the attacking department. They need that little extra something if they are to achieve the potential shown over the last few years. Boss Dave Jones was given the boot at the end of the season so Cardiff’s future remains a little uncertain.
