Football Season Review

№8: Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers finished the 2013/14 Championship season very strongly to secure an eighth place finish, just two points and two places outside the Playoff places. Gary Bowyer's men took some time to get going and find some consistency but their form in the final third of the campaign was up there with the likes of champions, Leicester City. Rovers remain reliant on the goals of top scorer, Jordan Rhodes, who notched another 25 league goals this term. However, January signing, Rudy Gestede proved to be a fantastic attacking foil for the Scotland international. Gestede, signed from Cardiff City, helped himself to 13 goals of his own and with 38 goals between them, Bowyer will be hoping the duo can continue in the same vein in 2014/15. However, while Rovers scored 70 goals this term, they also conceded 62. Their cavalier approach was partly the reason why they didn't quite have enough to sneak into the playoff places. Keeper, Paul Robinson appears to be back to his best, but Bowyer will have his work cut out in the summer months tightening things up at the back. Young midfielders, Tom Cairney and Jason Lowe were revelations this term and will be ones to watch in 2014/15.
