Football Season Review

№6: Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday will be kicking themselves as they did not really turn up in the play-off final, ultimately losing 1-0 to Hull City. But it was a season to remember for the Owls. Under new boss Carlos Carvalhal they at last appear to be going in the right direction and after spending large sums of money on new players last summer, became a force. Automatic promotion was never likely but the play-offs were never really in doubt. The signings of forwards Fernando Forestieri and Gary Hooper were particularly inspired. Forestieri has become a talisman at Hillsborough and his 15 goals and numerous assists so nearly helped Wednesday to glory. They will not be downheartened though and know with a couple more good signings over the summer they should be a major force again next season. Wednesday had been poor at home in the previous season and lacklustre in front of goal but they resolved both issues this time around, losing only twice at Hillsborough all season.
