Football Season Review

№18: Bristol City

Bristol City's season was one of two halves: with Steve Cotterill and then replacement Lee Johnson. City really struggled under Cotterill in their first season back in the Championship and appeared certainties to go back down. Cotterill was reluctant to switch away from his 3-5-2 system. But Johnson came in, switched to a flat back four and City were revitalised. Useful signings especially Lee Tomlin helped lift the mood and City became a confident, attacking force again. They initially had really trouble at their home ground Ashton Gate following its redevelopment. But under Johnson they soon found ways to win. In the end they stayed up quite comfortably. Johnson has some work to do over the summer. City were a small squad last season and he must decide the right players to bring in to fit the dynamic of the side. But he certainly seems to be on the right track so far.
