Football Season Review

№11: Watford

Rookie Watford boss Sean Dyche will have been very satisfied with his side's top half finish in the 2011/12 Championship season. Despite having one of the smaller budgets in the division the Hornets' blend of youth and experience saw them into a safe mid table position. Losing just seven games apiece at home and on the road, Watford were one of the harder teams to beat this term. Supporters were concerned before the beginning of the season following the departure of last year's top scorer, Danny Graham to newly promoted Swansea City. However, Troy Deeney confidently stepped up to the plate to fill Graham's boots, notching double figures in his first full season in the first team. Defensively the likes of Adrian Mariappa and Lloyd Doyley once again stood up to the challenge as mainstays of the backline. The arrival of Nyron Nosworthy on an initial loan deal - later made permanent - also added power and pace to the rearguard. Loan keeper Tomasz Kuszczak also showed a safe pair of hands in the final three months of the campaign. All in all Watford successfully punched above their weight and will be hoping to hit the ground running and achieve similar success next term.
