Football Season Review

№19: Nottingham Forest

A disastrous season for Nottingham Forest who were at once stage involved in a relegation battle. After defeat in the play-offs last term, Billy Davies was replaced by Steve McClaren. But it quickly became clear that McClaren and his board were not on the same wavelength. McClaren made plenty of bad signings including George Boateng, Jonathan Greening and Matt Derbyshire on big wages. But his side did not have any width with no left back or left midfielder after Chris Cohen went down injured. McClaren soon departed and was replaced by Steve Cotterill who was able to steer Forest to safety with the help of several loan signings. The death of owner Nigel Doughty failed to help the club and with confidence at a low they just managed to avoid relegation with a couple of games to go. The future looks a bit bleak with uncertainty over the ownership of the club and several players out of contract. Player of the season Garath McCleary has already left to join Reading and more could follow.
