Football Season Review

№9: Leicester City

Leicester City had a disastrous season given the expectations of their fans and owners. The Foxes finished 9th but were never realistically in with a shout of making the play-offs despite spending over £15 million. Sven Goran Eriksson’s new look side did not gel early on and former manager Nigel Pearson was brought in. Pearson soon decided £5 million defender Matt Mills did not fit into his style. After a slow start in partnership Jermaine Beckford and Dave Nugent eventually hit it off managing 31 goals between them. Kasper Schmeichel also enjoyed a solid season between the sticks but there was too much uncertainty over Leicester’s style which meant a lack of confidence and consistency, the Foxes unable to string together a run of wins that would have threatened a top six finish. Pearson still should have plenty of money to build a side capable of a challenging for the Premier League next term and has already move to catch £1 million Fleetwood striker Jamie Vardy.
