Football Season Review

№3: Fulham

Fulham got over last season's disappintment in the play-offs to win promotion back to the Premier League after four years away. It was a triumph for their exciting, passing style which had often been criticised in the past as it did not help them always to pick up victories. Slavisa Jokanovic has kept his patience throughout the season. It was certainly not a good enough start to the campaign to suggest they would challenge for promotion but they were mightily impressive in the second half of the campaign. The Cottagers went 23 games unbeaten (half a season) and were fully deserving of their promotion to the top flight based on that. They were easily one of the top three sides in the division. Undoubtedly they have a special player in the shape of Ryan Sessegnon. This was the youngster's breakthrough season and he scored 16 times, playing his part in all three play-off goals. But Tom Cairney was also magnificent in midfield while Tim Ream has become an accomplished central defender. Aleksandar Mitrovic also proved to be an inspired signing on loan in January from Newcastle and managed 12 goals in his time at Craven Cottage. They have a fine starting eleven but lack squad depth so know they will need to make plenty of signings over the summer should they be able to hold their own in the top flight.
