Football Season Review

№16: QPR

QPR were again well adrift of the play-off places finishing in a disappointing 16th, another uninspiring campaign for Rangers and their followers to have to contend with. It was another season of rebuilding and QPR were never in any danger of the drop, but they never looked like challenging the top six either. In the end Ian Holloway paid the price leaving at the end of the season to be replaced by Steve McClaren. It seems like a high-risk move to make that change with the former England manager not exactly enjoying much success at his recent clubs. QPR now appear to have got rid of all the high earners, captain Nedum Onuoha being the latest man to depart so there should be some room to bring in some new players for McClaren. Towards the end of Ian Holloway's reign, he brought in several youngsters that would fall into the very promising category, the likes of Ebere Eze, Paul Smyth and Ilias Chair could be key players in the future of the club. McClaren knows that QPR need to improve their record on the road which was exceptionally disappointing in the season just gone. They managed just three wins on the road in the entire campaign. Massimo Luongo was player of the year showing the class in midfield that earned him a World Cup call with Australia. Alex Smithies was again impressive in goal too.

Player of the Season: Massimo Luongo
