Football Season Review

№10: Sheffield United

Sheffield United's first season back in the Championship finished in 10th spot, a position they will have no doubt settled for when they started the season. However there is a tinge of disappointment for the Blades. For so long they were in the top six after really taking on their opponents. There was certainly no fear from Chris Wilder's side who took the momentum from promotion the previous season and looked the part. They played a 3-5-2 system which was different to a lot of teams and that formation, combined with a largely settled side with few injuries helped them make life difficult for their opponents. Strikers Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke both had decent seasons with the former scoring 14 goals and the latter managing 19. Player of the season though was John Fleck after he provided a crucial role in midfield. Goalkeeper Jamal Blackman was also excellent on loan from Chelsea and Wilder may look to make that arrangement permanent. You sense though that United need a couple of more players if they are to make the top six next time around. They badly ran out of steam late in this campaign but that should not take away from a season where there was plenty of encouragement.
