Football Season Review

№13: Leeds United

Yet another season of misery for Leeds. In the end they finished 13th after another campaign of total disappointment for their long-suffering fans. Thomas Christiansen was the little-known appointment when he arrived last summer but he really failed to mount any serious play-off bid. His replacement Paul Heckingbottom, who knows this division inside out after arriving from Barnsley, came in midway through the campaign and has arguably done an even worse job. Leeds have not looked comfortable in his reign so far although admittedly they have been without a catalogue of players in the latter half of the season. Losing Chris Wood was a big blow for Leeds as they were something of a one-man team last time out. Replacement Pierre-Michel Lasogga has a good start to his time at Elland Road but has not been able to follow it up, managing just 10 goals. Goalkeeper Felix Wieldwald had a nightmare first season at Elland Road and in the end was dropped in favour of youth teamer Bailey Peacock-Farrell. It is likely to be a summer of intense transfer activity at Elland Road, both in and out, as Heckingbottom, if he is given the chance to carry on with his job, looks to mould his side. Pablo Hernandez was Leeds' player of the season and the man they will be desperate to keep over the summer months.
