As expected, Genclerbirligi made a quick return to the top level following one-year absence. After a very strong start, they had to face a temporary crisis early on in 2019, but their powerful squad could manage to bounce back and do what they expected from themselves. The board parted the company with coach Ibrahim Uzulmez and appointed coach Mustafa Kaplan who spent his 11-year coaching career in 3 different capital city teams including city rivals Ankaragucu. Since he knows the club very well, it is a big advantage for them. Last season, they did not score many goals, but their defence line did very well. Despite that, they parted the company with some defenders in order to match the league’s level. They added Zargo Toure, Sadio Diallo and Sefa Yilmaz from the Turkish league which is a plus. Besides them, Abdoulaye Diallo, Polomat, Seuntjens, Candeias and Giovanni Sio signed in. Especially, the former Rangers and Montpellier players are expected to offer their capacity along with Stancu and Nadir Ciftci in order to produce more goals. The coach said that he will try to use some young players as back-up, but it does not seem enough. At this point, their squad look short of Turkish players, especially at center-back and midfield. Until the league’s kick-off, it would be better to search for some talented blood. If not, it could be a problem as their squad is fragile in front of injuries and suspensions.

Target

They can get a midtable place with their league experience. As they have done it before, a good cup run should not be a surprise.
