Sheffield Wednesday put two lowly seasons behind them when they won promotion back to the Championship in May and they certainly have ambitions to progress further, building on a success with 38,000 fans watching them beat Wycombe on the final day, the highest crowd outside the Premier League last season. Dave Jones, who only arrived late in the season, has recruited plenty of new players but goalkeeper Chris Kirkland appears to be the only one that falls into the spectacular category. Completing the permanent signing of Michail Antonio, whose performances on loan towards the end of the campaign, helped ensure promotion. Jones is a good manager and may be even better now he has a pre-season under his belt. Expectations from both the fans and owner Milan Mandaric are now high but Jones will want to build a firm base to establish Wednesday as one of the division's top clubs.

Target

The owners will want Wednesday to challenge but a solid mid-table finish appears to be realistic.
