Off the field it has been an eventful summer for Cardiff with the decision to dispense was the club's traditional blue shirts and instead play in red. The changes made by the club's owners have not impressed the supporters but at least there has been money to spend by Malky Mackay. He seems to have bought well with Craig Bellamy returning to the club that is close to his heart and Heidar Helguson also arriving. Goalkeeper Joe Lewis is highly rated and Jordon Mutch an up-and-coming midfielder. Foreign players Etien Velikonka and Bo-Kyung Kim are a sign of the club's ambitions. Last season Cardiff reached the League Cup final which they arguably should have won before they lost their way and were well beaten in the play-offs by West Ham United. After that season, it is likely Mackay will really prioritise the league after a number of near misses as they look to finally win promotion to the top flight.

Target

Promotion will be the minimum the owners will expect by however means.
