Football Season Review

№7: Bolton Wanderers

Dougie Freedman's Bolton Wanderers look in good shape to make an impression on the Championship in 2013-14. The Trotters were in poor shape at the start of the season as they took their time in adjusting to life back in the second tier. This sluggish start ultimately cost former boss, Owen Coyle his job, with Crystal Palace chief, Dougie Freedman taking the reins at the Reebok Stadium. Since then, the talented Scot has rejuvenated the squad and greatly improved his side's home form. Bolton did indeed have a shot at a top six finish going into the final week of the campaign, but a final day draw with Blackpool put paid to any Wembley ambitions. It is in the final third where Freedman will know full well he has to improve over the summer months, with just 22 goals scored between his four senior first team strikers in 2012-13. Stand-out performers for Wanderers included keeper, Adam Bogdan and left back Marcos Alonso. The latter of which took his time to adapt to life in English football but has since turned in a host of accomplished displays to catch the eye of some of the biggest clubs in Italy, according to reports. With parachute payments still under their belt another top six push is most definitely a possibility next season providing they improve their goal output.
