Football Season Review

№11: Burnley

It was another season of mediocrity for Burnley who lost Eddie Howe midway through the season due to his desire to return to the south coast. Howe never really settled in Lancashire and in the end his spell has not helped the Clarets. Sean Dyche, his replacement, does not appear to have settled well either. Burnley would certainly be in deeper trouble if it was not for Charlie Austin. Austin managed 28 goals and the next highest scorer was Martin Paterson with just eight. Austin missed parts of the season with injury and was undoubtedly missed. Kieran Trippier continued to perform at right back creating a number of goals too but other than that few players performed well. The Clarets certainly seem to be going backwards after their recent spell in the top flight. They will need to sign plenty of players in the summer to supplement one of the smallest squads in the division if they are to be competitive in the Championship next season while Dyche's main aim will surely to be to keep Austin away from the clutter of Premier League clubs that come calling.

Player of the Season: Charlie Austin
