Football Season Review

№10: Brentford

This was a season of steady progress for Brentford under Dean Smith, although they did not have the best of starts to the campaign. Scott Hogan impressed during that period and he netted plenty of goals to earn a big money move to Aston Villa. However the Bees' best period came after Hogan departed with Lasse Vibe thriving in the central striker position and Jota impressing following his return to the club. The pair's performances really helped Brentford turn on the style and they earned plaudits for their late season flair. However Brentford's squad is a fairly small one so this promises to be a big summer in a bid to add further depth to the side. Brentford will hope that next season they can challenge again for a top six spot. The ambitions of the owners are high so there may be pressure on Dean Smith to deliver. Keeping hold of Jota will be important too. Brentford's young side are gaining more and more experienced and this area was summed up by the maturity of Harlee Dean who really stepped up a season after his defensive partner James Tarkowski had left for Burnley.
