Football Season Review

№16: Ipswich Town

This was another season totally lacking in any kind of excitement for Ipswich, save for some late season worry that they could be dragged into a relegation battle. Once again Ipswich were poor for much of the season as they offered very little to attract fans. They are the longest serving members of the Championship and they spent much of it in mid-table obscurity. An embarrassing cup exit to Lincoln City increased the pressure on Mick McCarthy but he is currently still in charge despite repeat calls from fans for him to leave the club. Ipswich had to wait until April for their first back-to-back wins of the season and their alarming lack of consistency was the cause of many problems. Ipswich have not had much investment and it clearly showed again this season. They were also not helped by a series of injuries throughout the campaign and they also drew far too many games. Change is clearly necessary and this could be a big summer one way or another for the Tractor Boys. Ipswich can be grateful for the form in goal of Bartosz Bialkowski for steering them away from danger. Tom Lawrence was also impressive in his season-long loan from Leicester.
