Football Season Review

№11: Preston North End

Preston produced another solid-enough display to earn another top half finish under Simon Grayson. They even flirted with the play-offs for most of the season until a poor run of late season form saw them finish 11th. Grayson has earned his plaudits for the thoughtful way he has gone about business. On loan Everton winger Aiden McGeady helped North End to continue their improvement and he was easily the standout performer during the campaign. Preston will be keen to keep him next season but it may be difficult on the evidence given. Jordan Hugill also produced an improved showing up-front, Preston's weak link in the previous campaign, to finish up with 13 goals. The Lancashire side were hit by a number of injuries, particularly in defence, which really harmed their progress. With little money to spend over the summer, Grayson will once again need to be wise in the transfer market. Again attack appears to be the area that they need to particularly strengthen. One other pleasing aspect of this campaign for Preston was the emergence of Chris Maxwell in goal meaning that further loan goalkeepers are now unlikely.
