Football Season Review

№2: Brighton and Hove Albion

Brighton will be simply delighted to make the Premier League after the agony of missing out in the play-offs after a dominant campaign last term. The Seagulls are now in the Premier League for the first time and will be desperate to stay there. You get the impression though that they will need some new players if they are to survive as Brighton have relied heavily on experienced Championship players. They were extremely exciting on home soil in particular with the Amex quickly becoming a fortress of a stadium. Anthony Knockaert was player of the season after a stunning campaign from the wing. He scored 15 goals and was involved in several more. Glenn Murray's 23 goals while on loan from Bournemouth also proved crucial and he seems certain to sign a permanent deal. Chris Hughton also proved that nice guys can be winners too, his astute management being one of the hallmarks of the club. He was recently voted Championship manager of the season for his achievements. The one disappointing aspect for Brighton was their failure to win the title having only needed to win once in their last three games but in the end were pipped by Newcastle after conceding late in their final game of the campaign at Aston Villa.
