Football Season Review

Champions: Norwich City

Season's aim achieved for Norwich as they bounced back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, securing the Championship title. This was a mature performance from a side filled with players who had been there and done it before. Once again the flair of Championship Player of the Season Emiliano Buendia and the goals of Teemu Pukki stood out but behind them was a hard-working midfield and a solid backline. After a slow start they went top in mid-November. They had a slight wobble at the end of January / start of February when they failed to score in four successive games. However, they recovered from this brilliantly with a nine-game winning streak and never looked back. Although they lost exciting young defenders Ben Godfrey and Jamal Lewis in the summer they managed to keep most of their established stars. The additions of central defender Ben Gibson and the loan signing of Tottenham youngster Oliver Skipp also proved crucial. Skipp was a revelation in central midfield with his energy, ability to win back possession and progressive passing. Next season they will get another crack at the Premier League. The team and boss Daniel Farke are now more experienced and will get a chance to learn from their unsuccessful 2019/20 Premier League survival campaign. Again, they will have to deal with interest in their best players over the summer with Buendia and exciting right-back Max Aarons constantly linked with moves away.

Player of the Season: Emiliano Buendia
