Football Season Review

№19: Luton Town

Luton achieved an astonishing survival, something that did not seem possible for much of the campaign. They were not out of the bottom three at any point in 2020 until after their final day 3-2 win over Blackburn. Graeme Jones was appointed their new manager and after an initial decent start, some poor form in December and January caused calls for him to be replaced. He survived until the season was disrupted by Covid-19 before being sacked apparently for financial reasons. In the end Nathan Jones, the club's former manager, agreed to return. Jones is the most successful manager in the club's history and did the job, losing just one of his nine games in charge although the football was never particularly pretty. James Collins was probably Luton's best player thanks to his 15 goals scored. Harry Cornick also impressed as did Pelly-Ruddock Mpenza while on loan. Izzy Brown was also excellent in phases. It will be another tough campaign next season for the Hatters and it seems they will need to make a couple of decent signings in the transfer window.
