Football Season Review

№9: Preston North End

Another failed campaign saw Preston flirt with the top six for periods but in the end they lacked the necessary composure to succeed. They only won twice in nine games since the restart and that was not good enough, though they were just four points away overall. Alex Neil is clearly one of the up and coming managers in English football and he did get the best out of his side in periods. Neil left the impression that he did not always appreciate his best side and chopped and changed it at regular intervals. Preston impressed at home with 12 wins but picked up just six on the road, something they will undoubtedly look to work on. The midfield particularly looked good for Preston this season with Daniel Johnson named player of the season, finishing top scorer with 12 goals. Patrick Bauer and Ben Davies were also a strong showing at the back. But the attack did not fire. Sean Maguire scored only five all season while David Nugent disappointed after signing last summer, finding the net only once. Preston's squad is fairly strong and capable of another challenge next term but are likely to need attacking reinforcements.

Player of the Season: Daniel Johnson
