Football Season Review

№14: Reading

This was another poor season for Reading with little excitement for their fans. They started the campaign under Jose Gomes but he was sacked after a poor start with Mark Bowen moving from sporting director to manager. Bowen had zero direct managerial experience but did steady the ship and was one of the few bright points in a disappointing campaign. Financial issues appeared to hit the Royals hard. George Puscas was signed for a club record £7.5 million but only scored 12 times. The squad appeared far too large too with several high earners on the books. Ovie Ejaria was player of the season but a muted permanent move from Liverpool could well fall through. Rafael impressed in goal while youngsters such as Michael Olise looked good while Yakou Meite weighed in at times. Reading only won seven times at home and they have not looked good at The Madejski Stadium over the last few years. It promises to be a busy summer of rebuilding but as things stand there is little in terms of confidence for next season.

Player of the Season: Ovie Ejaria
