Football Season Review

№23: Wigan Athletic

Wigan are set to have their relegation to League One confirmed if an appeal against their 12 point deduction fails. In the end that points deduction is the only reason for their relegation. Without it they would have finished a comfortable 13th thanks to an excellent second half of the campaign on the pitch. The points deduction was applied after the club entered administration and the off the field issues are set to see the departure of boss Paul Cook. There is therefore so much uncertainty over what the future may hold with many players including the likes of Antonee Robinson and Kieffer Moore set to depart. Wigan certainly were improving as a side in the last half of the season and that included a thumping 8-0 win over Hull. They will feel so disappointed that matters outside of their control hurt them. Several players enjoyed decent seasons including keeper David Marshall, Antonee Robinson, midfielders Sam Morsy and Joe Williams along with forwards Jamal Lowe and Kieffer Moore with Cook opting to play a settled side for most of the last few games.
