Football Season Review

№16: Sheffield Wednesday

This was a pretty bleak season for Sheffield Wednesday from start to finish and they will just be glad to stay in the division. It started badly as Steve Bruce unexpectedly left to join Newcastle United. It was not until September that Garry Monk was appointed replacement, so very little planning went into the campaign. The Owls never really got going at any point in the campaign in a season dogged by off the field sagas with lingering threats of points deductions. Wednesday's overall squad looks poorly balanced with several similar players and few that offer anything different. They have opted to part company with the likes of Sam Hutchinson and Fernando Forestieri which should reduce the wage bill. On the pitch, defender Dominic Iorfa was player of the season while Barry Bannan continued to offer consistency in the middle of the park. Wednesday will need numerous signings if they are to make any kind of challenge next season. They are already facing a 12-point deduction for financial irregularities.
