There was little surprise when the news of Kenny Jackett's departure as Millwall manager filtered through in the early weeks of the close season. Jackett's long and impressive tenure appeared to go stale last term and a mutual parting of the ways was undoubtedly best after the Lions flirted with the drop in the latter stages of the 2012/13 season. Regardless, the arrival of new chief, Steve Lomas appears to have brought about a new wave of optimism at The New Den, with a number of experienced Championship players coming through the door. Stephen Bywater has arrived to challenge #1 keeper, David Forde, while there's renewed competition for places in attack with Jermaine Easter and Scott McDonald arriving along with former fans' favourite, Steve Morison on a season-long loan. Dependable midfielders, Richard Chaplow and Nicky Bailey have also agreed to join Lomas' new-look squad. If Millwall can turn The New Den into a fortress once again then a playoff charge is not beyond the realms of possibility.
