Football Season Review

№5: Brentford

This was a quite incredible season for Brentford. Expected to struggle in League One, the West Londoners made the play-offs despite the bizarre decision to announce boss Mark Warburton would leave at the end of the campaign midway through it. The decision to part company remains difficult to fathom but Warburton kept his professionalism to ensure the Bees enjoyed a mightily impressive campaign. His main strength was playing a settled side, ensuring a terrific team spirit. The signings of Alex Pritchard and Jota were impressive and Brentford became famed for the number of chances they created per game. They only drew nine games with 11 wins coming away from home so Warburton assembled a style of play that prompted positive outcomes. Marinus Dijkhuizen has been appointed new head coach. Brentford say they have a forward thinking approach to management and much will now depend on this summer to determine if they were right or wrong to part company with Warburton.
