Football Season Review

№14: Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest can be very disappointed again at the end of another campaign that briefly threatened to finally get the club back up to the Premier League for the first time since 1999. Fawaz Al Hasawi has invested millions in the club but too much after Forest were hit by a transfer embargo midway through the season. At first it looked like, under Stuart Pearce, Forest could win promotion especially when they led the table after a brillant start. Britt Assombalonga and Michail Antonio proved to be fine attacking signings but injuries hit Forest hard especially when captain Chris Cohen and Andy Reid were ruled out for most of the season. Pearce was eventually sacked after a disastrous run of form and it was too late for Dougie Freedman to turn things around especially when he was dealt the major blow of Assombalonga being ruled out for a year following injury in March. It promises to be another difficult summer for Forest with Freedman forced to sign players on free transfers thanks to the restrictions.
